Reeds
I sell reeds with the understanding that students return corks to me after the reed is worn out. I tailor each reed to the individual student's needs and ability, making every effort to prolong the reed's lifetime. I make adjustments to new reeds as necessary during lessons.
The oboe is a double-reed instrument, unlike the clarinet, which has a single reed attached to a mouthpiece. This means that the vibrations, and therefore tone quality, are produced by two very fragile pieces of wood. If you take a look at the reed and note how thin it is, you'll appreciate how easily it could snap or crack. Students must treat their reeds with extreme care. I recommend that they dip them in water for about 2 minutes before playing, immersing the wood completely. Since reeds are fragile, they unfortunately do not last forever. Students must have three functioning reeds at all times to ensure that they have a back-up in case of accidents.
Reed Purchase Policy
The student MUST notify me 48 hours in advance of the lesson of the number of reeds they need to purchase. You may email me,
, or call me at
. This gives me time to prepare a superior reed.
